Touge Session

Sankeien Garden (Yokohama)

About 2 weeks ago the gf and I went to Sankeien Garden in Yokohama.  Although its very near to where we live, we had never been.  Funny how that always seems to be the case.  It ended up be very nice.  The weather was cool and it made the day really enjoyable to walk around in.

This is the main pond with the Pagoda up top.

We had lunch on the other side of the pond.  I had Soba noodles and Kinako dango with a chuhai to drink.  It was very good.

Once you hike up to the top part where the Pagoda is it is interesting to see the contrast between the old and the new with the city in the background.

This Pagoda was built in 1457 and is still original, although it was moved to Yokohama as it was originally made in Kyoto... I think

Nice bamboo scenery for a Yanki squat.

Cool wild shrooms.

A very old and traditional style house.

Sitting inside these houses you can find the clay type fire pits used for cooking and heating.  I was informed the tar from the smoke actually helps seal the roof of the house and keep it long lasting.  It was interesting to learn how things worked together within the house.

Cool bee type insect.

We ended the trip with a stop at a local bakery.  Japanese bakeries are amazing!  For anyone who thinks Japanese don't know how to do bread, please experience it when you come to visit.  There are many highly European influenced bakeries around that offer a large variety of breads and pastries.
